Every migration follows the same deliberate order. The sequence is the whole trick: control moves across before traffic does, so your live site is never left without somewhere to point.
Staging build
We build and refine your new website on a private staging domain, in a secure environment away from your live site. Our first draft is typically ready within 7 to 10 working days, then we shape it with you until it is right.
Registrar access
We get access to your domain registrar to map exactly where your DNS is managed and prepare the nameserver update. Mapping it before the switch is what removes the risk on the day.
DNS mirrored to Cloudflare
We collect every existing DNS record, A, CNAME, MX and the rest, and recreate them in Cloudflare for added security and performance. Nothing changes for visitors yet, and your email keeps flowing to the same place.
Nameservers pointed
We point your nameservers at Cloudflare. Your records still direct traffic to your existing website, so the live site keeps serving as normal while the delegation spreads across the internet, which can take up to 48 hours. This step hands the steering wheel over safely, with nothing yet riding on it.
Final cutover Zero downtime
We switch the records to point at Refari hosting. Because Cloudflare is already answering for your domain, the change reaches networks quickly, typically within minutes as cached records expire. We leave your old host running throughout, so whichever version a network has picked up, every visitor reaches a working site.
We move control before we move traffic.
Risky migrations fail because someone points the domain at the new site before it is ready to receive it, leaving a gap where the domain resolves to nothing. We do it the other way around: your existing site keeps answering every request while we hand control across through Cloudflare, and only then flip the final switch. Crucially, we leave your old host running throughout, so while the change works its way across the internet, both destinations still resolve.
At no point is your domain pointed somewhere that cannot serve it. Whichever version a visitor's network has picked up, they reach a working site. That is the entire reason the switch is invisible.

Will my website go down during the move?
No. We deploy in a deliberate order so your current website keeps serving visitors the whole way through. We build on staging, mirror your existing DNS records into Cloudflare, point your nameservers across while traffic still flows to your old site, and only then switch the records to Refari. During DNS propagation both the old and new sites resolve, so there is no gap in service.
How long does deployment take?
We typically deliver the first draft of a new website on staging within 7 to 10 working days, then refine it with you until it is right. On the technical side, the nameserver change can take up to 48 hours to spread across the internet, and the final switch to Refari usually lands within minutes of being triggered. Your existing site stays live throughout both, so the timing carries no risk of downtime.
Do you need access to my domain registrar?
Yes. We need access to the account where your domain is registered so we can see exactly where your DNS is managed and update your nameservers when the time comes. Mapping this before the switch is what lets us cut over without downtime. If you are not sure who your registrar is, we can help you find out.
What happens to my email when the website moves?
Your email is protected. When we collect your DNS records we capture your MX records and other mail-related entries and recreate them in Cloudflare exactly as they are, so your email keeps flowing to the same place. Moving your website does not move your email.
Can I keep my current website or host my own site?
Yes. Most clients have Refari design, build, manage and host their site end to end, but you do not have to. Some clients build and host their own site and use Refari for the platform and tools, and others keep their own build and simply move onto our secure hosting. We work whichever way suits you.
What is Cloudflare and why do you use it?
Cloudflare sits in front of your website as a security and performance layer. It manages your DNS, provides SSL encryption, protects against attacks and malicious traffic, and speeds up your site by serving it from a global network. Routing your domain through Cloudflare is also what makes the zero-downtime cutover possible.
How long does DNS propagation take?
It depends which change you mean. Moving your nameservers to Cloudflare can take up to 48 hours to spread across the internet, though it is often much faster. The final switch to Refari hosting is quicker, usually landing within minutes as cached records expire, because Cloudflare is already answering for your domain by then. This is all normal and expected, and because we keep your old site running until the move is complete, visitors always reach a working site during the window.
